2000 CABERNET SAUVIGNON,
NAPA VALLEY
The Vintage:
“The first harvest of the new century began with
an ideal growing season. A cool, even weather pattern throughout the spring
and summer allowed for slow, steady ripening which produced exceptional
quality grapes with substantial yields. Mother Nature was cooperative
this season, working hand-in-hand with the growers for an ideal vintage.”—Gary
Galleron, Winemaker
The Vineyard:
This new Cabernet by Gary Galleron is a blend of two of
the finest Cabernet vineyards in the Napa Valley: the Morisoli Vineyard
and the Taplin Vineyard. The Morisoli Vineyard lies in the heart of the
Rutherford Appellation, home to the world’s most celebrated Cabernets.
Farmed by fourth generation grower, Gary Morisoli, this vineyard contains
the elusive component of “Rutherford dust” that defines the
distinct Cabernets from this region.
The Taplin Vineyard, part of the historic Lewelling estate,
was established in 1864 near the western foothills in St. Helena, by pioneer
winegrower and horticulturist John Lewelling. During the 1870s and 1880s,
the vineyards in this area earned a reputation for producing some of the
finest wines in the United States.
The Morisoli and Taplin vineyards are two of the oldest
continuously owned family vineyards in the Napa Valley.
The Wine:
This premier Cabernet is a winning blend of 25% Morisoli
fruit and 75% Taplin fruit. Full-bodied and replete with vibrant aromas
of rich, ripe fruit spiced with black pepper and smoky oak. Smooth, polished
tannins beautifully frame complex layers of dark, rich valley floor fruit.
Luscious waves of blackberry, cherry, berry, cassis, cedar wood and vanilla
oak wash over the palate, and ultimately peak in a long, seductive finish.
This outstanding Cabernet is exceptionally engaging now, but will continue
to gain depth and complexity over time.
