The Vintage:“Spring came early this year, setting the stage for one of the quickest flowering and fruit set periods on record. A sudden, unexpected deep frost in April caught growers by surprise followed by extreme heat spikes in May, June and July. The weather eventually evened out as the summer progressed and by August temperatures were ideal. The warm days and cool nights gave the red varietals some hang-time, just what they needed to achieve the perfect balance of sugar, flavor and acid.”—Gary Galleron, Winemaker The Vineyard:The Morisoli Vineyard lies in the heart of the Rutherford Appellation, home to the world’s most celebrated Cabernets. Farmed by fourth generation grower, Gary Morisoli, this vineyard contains the elusive component of “Rutherford dust” that defines the distinctive Cabernets from this region. . The Wine:Gloriously aromatic with sublime aromas that leap from the glass. An intensely beautiful bouquet of black plums, dark exotic spices, roses and deep black fruit engulf the senses. The first sip reveals the massive proportions of this voluptuous Cabernet. A big, soft mouthful of crushed blackberries, dark cherries and sweet oak, linger and seduce the palate. Bursting with rich valley floor fruit, this Cabernet is intensely pleasurable now but will continue to evolve with bottle age. What The Critics Say...90 Points, 2001 Vintage “Rutherford is the valley’s premier Cabernet appellation…where producers such as Galleron consistently make magnificent wines.” Rod Smith, Los Angeles Times “From a vineyard in Rutherford, this wine expresses the heart and soul of the appellation.” Steve Heimoff, Wine Enthusiast Magazine |
