GALLERON AVES ZINFANDEL
NAPA VALLEY
The Vineyard:
Gary Galleron's passion
for creating spectacular wines from a wide variety of fruit has led him
to seek out the best grapes from the finest vineyards in the Napa Valley.
The Aves Zinfandel vineyard is no exception. The thirty-year-old vines
are located in the heart of the St. Helena appellation. Owners Russ and
Leona Aves settled in the Napa Valley in 1968 and began farming the historic
five acre parcel which was originally planted to Zinfandel in the late
1890's. For the past thirty years the Aves family has practiced a vineyard
technique called "dry farming", where no artificial irrigation is used.
It is entirely up to Mother Nature to provide everything the grapevines
will need to thrive. The incredible result is low yield vines with high
quality grapes that are literally bursting with intense fruit flavors
and aromas.
The Wine:
Winemaker Gary
Galleron carefully selected these prized grapes to create the only Zinfandel
in his collection. The fruit was crushed and fermented at 88º in
stainless steel vats and pressed out at dryness after seven days. The
wine was immediately racked into French and American oak and aged for
20 months. Dark, rich, ripe and supple with a nose of blackberry and cassis,
this wine infuses the palate with a sweeping wave of brambly berry, wild
cherry and blueberry fruit, finishing with a velvet whisper of sweet vanilla
oak.
What The Critics
Say...
Reviewed in The Insiders Wine line - Volume 4, Number 4
"The 1998 Zinfandel, Aves Vineyard, Napa Valley has an exotic
boquet of blackberry, bing cherry, raspberry, black pepper, coffee bean
and a hint of licorice. The flavors of plums, berries, toast and spice
are rich, complex and expansive followed by a fruity, lush finish.
