1999 HANNA PINOT NOIR
NAPA VALLEY
The Vineyard:
The Hanna Vineyard lies in the cooler, southern end of the
Napa Valley where growing conditions are ideal for Pinot Noir. Fifth generation
grower Bill Hanna, a direct descendant of naturalist John Muir, planted the
vineyard in 1973. The budwood came from neighbor Trefethen Vineyards and was
pronounced a true Pinot Noir clone by the Chef du Caves of Domain Chandon.
The Wine:
Wrapped in a robe of deep garnet, this medium-bodied wine opens
with an exuberant nose of violets and perfume. A touch of earth and eucalyptus
further power the wines complexity as it glides over the palate with
sweet strawberry and tangy cherry fruit. The Hanna Pinot Noir is elegant and
balanced with subtle oak, a firm structure and beautifully integrated tannins.
