The
Vineyard:
The vineyards
of the historic Lewelling estate were established in 1864 near the western
foothills in St. Helena by pioneer winegrower John Lewelling. His great-grandson,
Ken Lewelling Taplin and great-granddaughter, Janice Lewelling Wight,
operate the family grape ranch. Janices sons Dave & Doug manage
the vineyards. Gary chose his grapes from the Taplin block of the family
vineyards for this magnificent Cabernet.
The Wine:
Deep purple velvet
in color, with a dusty nose of earth and graphite, this Cabernet is exceptional
in its purity of fruit. Black raspberry, cherry, berry, all spice, cloves,
marzipan and vanilla oak are beautifully integrated, creating a masterwork
of wine that is at once elegant and intense. Amazingly drinkable on the
palate and impeccably balanced, this wine will gain additional complexity
with 3 to 5 years of bottle age, but will last 20 years or more.
