The Vineyard:This classic Chardonnay was crafted from grapes grown in the Trio Vineyard, located at the cooler, southern end of the Napa Valley in the Yountville appellation. The father/daughter team of Will and Julie Nord grow choice Chardonnay grapes in this region where the cool marine mist from the neighboring bay allows the grapes to ripen more slowly and evenly giving them optimum "hang time" on the vine. These exceptional grapes are the source for this classic, Burgundian style Chardonnay. The Wine:The Trio Chardonnay fruit was whole cluster pressed and 100% barrel fermented in new French Marchive Oak and aged sur lies for eight months with no malolactic. Honey gold in color with a classic nose of apple-pear Chardonnay fruit, this wine is voluptuous on the palate, unveiling a complex array of almond, nectarine, ripe fig and Fuji apple flavors with nuances of mango and spice. A beautiful, classic rendition of the Chardonnay grape, finishing clean, spicy, pure and long. What The Critics Say...Reviewed in Wine Enthusiast - July 2001 - Galleron 1999 Trio Vineyard Chardonnay (Napa Valley); $40. From the smoky, spicy nose through the spicy apple notes in the mouth, this bottling has an intriguing earth and mineral streak from start to finish. Medium-bodied, the wine offers some lemon and mineral tang and a lot of smoky oak on the finish. Rating: 87 Reviewed in The Insiders Wine line - Volume 4, Number 4 "The 1998 Chardonnay, Trio Vineyard, Napa Valley has a bright bouquet of pineapple, pear apple, melon and subtle spicy oak. The flavors of tropical fruits, applaes, cinnamon and butterscotch are rich and flavorful followed by a fruity, creamy finish. Rating: 87" |
